Choon Seng Teochew Porridge – That Plate of Minced Pork with Fermented Black Beans is…

A rainy week calls for some simple and soothing Teochew porridge at Choon Seng Teochew Porridge. Choon Seng’s items are well laid out, there are many colour-coded buttons at the counter, each representing the dishes available. Instead of taking the orders using pen and paper, the staff will collect the buttons according to your order and send it to the kitchen. To be honest, the dishes are not extensive but the popularity is steady as many of their dishes are honest, home-cooked food.

I have heard that this place sells a plate of steamed Soo Mei for $60. My friends wanted to order it but it wasn’t available (HENG AH!). So we had the steamed red garoupa done two ways – one in teochew steamed version, while the other in preserved soy bean. The fish is served with pieces of tofu and strips of salted vegetables that don’t overpower, and still retaining the freshness of the fish. Just drinking the soup from the steamed fish is a joy. If you do not have a big group, there is option for just ordering half the fish, where you can choose with the head or the tail.

The stew items were ordinary. We had a platter of duck slices together with tofu and pig’s skin. The duck slices were not extremely tender but the rice, stained black with pork fat, was delicious. Dip the flesh into the chilli sauce.

The highlight of our meal was the minced pork with fermented black beans. It’s intense and packed with umami, probably from the addition of luncheon meat. It tastes so good with porridge and even as I am typing this, I am salivating. We ordered two portions to share. The stall also sells a very unique prawn omelette that I have seldom seen at other places. The plain porridge is prepared using the traditional earthen pot and in smaller portions.

Teochew porridge is simple but after pairing with soothing dishes, it can taste good. And I am sure now you know where to relive those childhood memories.

If you love Teochew porridge, this is the place to go. The trick is to get there at about 11.30am, just after they open. Because they will be sold out by 2pm, so don’t bother to go for a late lunch.

Lee’s Confectionery – Dessert Fanatics will Love this New French Patisserie in Jurong

A new dessert shop has arrived in Jurong, just a stone’s throw from Jurong East Swimming Complex.

The shop entrance is nondescript and the minimalist shop is completed with floor-to-ceiling windows. Owner-baker Lee Yin Quan graduated with a diploma in French pastry at Ferrandi Paris and worked with many famous Michelin Star chefs such as Jean-François Piège and Nina Métayer.

The stars are the cakes which take a while to be served because each plate is individually plateed. Interestingly, all the desserts here have fun names such as PUCK and JIAO.

DSCF9692-5

Inspired by the hexagonal beehive, the café’s Madu ($8) is a combination of honeycomb and salted caramel. Its decadent and not too sweet. Those who have a sweet tooth will probably appreciate this cake more than I did.

DSCF9695-6

As a lover of lemon and lime desserts, I’m always on the lookout for cakes to satisfy my cravings. The Tart ($8) did not disappoint. No key lime tart is complete without a graham cracker crust. The buttery crust balances out the acidity of the pie and ensures that the tart is not overly sweet.

DSCF9715-11

We love the Puff (S$7), a picture-perfect flaky puff that is filled with a luscious earl grey and kaya cream. Each mouthful was smooth and revealed the subtle earl grey flavour was lovely.

DSCF9708-10

The Jiao (S$8), a banana caramel cake, is light and moist. It is coated with a thin film of white chocolate. The fluffy banana sponge cake sits on an oatmeal crust and is served with dots of salted caramel.

DSCF9701-7

For something more decadent, go for the Puck (S$8). The dark chocolate cake is really rich and is complemented perfectly with sea salt. If you’re a huge fan of chocolate cake, you’ll definitely love this.

DSCF9721-13

One of the most popular cakes is the Dale (S$8). The elegant matcha tart is composed of light matcha sponge, matcha mouse and passionfruit compote. It looks like a mini-floating island. The pillowy-soft matcha sponge, tangy passionfruit compote and buttery crispy crumble made a great combination but I wished that the matcha was more robust.

DSCF9687-3

The cakes are thoughtfully built with flavours that complement each other. The coffee is brewed from beans from Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee. A selection of Ette Tea brews is also available.

It takes awhile for the desserts to be plated individually, so be patient. Even though there are only a few tables and chairs in the small space, the turnover is relatively fast and the cafe is quiet even on weekends.

Momo Kitchen – New Malaysian Eatery Serving Blue Pea Nasi Lemak and Crystal Dumplings

Our love for Malaysian fare is undeniable. At the newly opened Momo Kitchen in Jalan Bukit Merah, you can find tasty dishes such as nasi lemak and prawn noodles.

Momo Kitchen’s boss, Pauline, was a graphic designer before she ventured into F&B. Her mother-in-law opened Nasi Lemak Pekan Cina (大街咖喱饭) in Kedah and Pauline learnt how to prepare the dishes from her. When asked why she named the eatery “Momo”, Pauline said she loved the name after watching the Korean drama ‘My name is Kim Samsoon’. Momo, the character that Samsoon talks about in the drama, originated from a fantasy novel of the same name by Michael Ende.

iPiccy-collage2
DSCF8955-10
DSCF9052-32

The signature at Momo Kitchen is the handmade crystal dumplings. It got its name from the beautiful translucent look of the dumpling wrapper which is made from potato starch. Enclosed in soft and chewy skin is a generous amount of stir-fried shredded jicama and carrots. Diners love it so much that they sometimes order in bulk for events.

DSCF8933-4
iPiccy-collage1

Momo Kitchen’s Rendang Chicken Butterfly Pea Nasi Lemak ($5.90) is built with fragant sambal, rendang chicken, cucumber slice and omelette. Pauline wanted to “revolutionise” the traditional nasi lemak. Hence, the fragrant rice is cooked with coconut milk and stained a pretty natural blue with the butterfly pea flower.

The chicken, which was tender and juicy, was simmered with lemongrass, cloves and cardamom. It had a good burst of flavours from the spices. They use fresh coconut milk to prepare the aromatic gravy. The fragrance of the rice was subtle and did not overpower the mildly spicy rendang.

DSCF8942-7
DSCF8972-14

The Bak Kut Teh Set ($7) comes with a bowl of rice, mustard vegetables and fried beancurd rolls. Plenty of spices and herbs are used to cook the bak kut teh but the herbal notes are not overpowering, snd I believe that most people will enjoy it.

DSCF8995-21
DSCF9026-28

Another huge hit is the Prawn Noodles ($5.50). The broth is really rich as it’s been boiled for hours. The addition of chilli gives it brilliant spicy kick. Their prawn mee comes with generous servings of prawns, pork slices, fried shallots and half a hard-boiled egg.

DSCF8998-22
DSCF9033-29

On Wednesday & Thursday, they have a special dish – Jawa Mee ($5.50). I probably only tried it once in Penang so I cannot comment much. The thick broth is made with deliciously roasted peanuts, sweet potatoes, prawns, and topped with Momo’s Prawn Biscuit. I squeezed some lime onto my noodles and mixed everything up for a more balanced flavour. The noodles were lightly blanched, retaining a firm yet springy texture.

DSCF9055-33
DSCF9075-37

There are also desserts available at Momo Kitchen. Pauline’s cousin, Xavier, is a trained pastry chef from Le Cordon Bleu. He came up with an excellent 8 treasures cheng tng, Peranakan pannacotta and earl grey dark chocolate loaf cake.

Slow-Cooked Grain-Fed Kangeroo Tail

Start your meal with some seafood on ice. Plump mussels and fresh crabs await. Move on to the roast beef next. The succulent marbled slab of Pan-Roasted Angus Beef Tenderloin will dazzle your tastebuds. Marinated with fresh herbs, the tenderloin, which was completed with mushroom ragout, garlic chip and truffle jus, was as tender as it was tasty.

The Salted Egg Crabs were big, and you could taste the freshness in its firm flesh. The golden sauce coating the crab was finger-licking good. Naturally, everyone took their time with this dish.

Equally appealing was the Slow-Cooked Grain Fed Kangaroo Tail. I have eaten roasted kangaroo meat but this is the first time I am having it in a stew. The meat was fork-tender, rich, and flavorful — reminiscent of those cuts of beef and pork frequently used for braising. It was delicious and just melted in my mouth!

Indonesian cuisine has so much to offer. I have been craving for addictive sambal and aromatic rendang dishes. Furama RiverFront’s halal-certified Kintamani Restaurant is a fantastic place to savour it all. They are the first Halal establishment in a hotel, and provides an authentic Balinese dining experience daily.

To start, we had the impossibly light and refreshing Young Mango Salad with Roasted Walnuts which was extremely appetite-whetting. We then had chilli crabs which evoked sharp intakes of breath, and little gasps of excitement. The incredibly fragrant chilli crab sauce packed a good amount of heat and I mopped up every bit of sauce. Another highlight is the Wok-Fried Spicy Prawns with Wild Petai. The perfectly-cooked stink beans were coated in a robust sambal made with yellow ginger, lime leaves, fresh chilli and garlic.

The beef rendang was braised in coconut milk to and the melt-in-your-mouth beef was amazingly tender. The same could be said of the Broiled Fragrant Beef Tendon Broth and Beef Ren, a heavenly stew. The kitchen does not hold back on the addition of seasoning, spices, and herbs, and every dish is immensely tasty.

The spotlight was definitely on the Baked Chicken with Coconut and Spices, which was a quirky and interesting chicken dish that’s imbued with a blend of spices including Green Chilli, Chilli Padi, Candlenut, Lemongrass, Lime leaf and Coconut Cream. The chicken was exceptionally tender, and carried a hint of sweetness. The dish is topped off with coconut shavings.

Lamb shanks need hours of slow and gentle cooking for the meat to effortlessly fall off the. The silky and almost-sticky lamb shank possessed a rich and intense flavour that I couldn’t help but fall in love with. From sea to table, the Seabass is marinated with sambal sauce and sautéed for 35 minutes. Tangy and spicy, the seabass was pristinely fresh and utterly palatable.

Don’t forget to round off your meal on a high with a sticky date pudding!

People have been drinking coffee for centuries. Coffee is consumed in several ways across the globe: The Italians love their Cappuccino & Latte, and us Singaporeans love our Kopi Siew Dai & Kopi Ti Lo. Some like their coffee with milk and some like it with sugar. We love to drink coffee, but making a great cup of coffee from scratch can be very difficult at home. What if I told you that you can produce consistent barista-style coffee worthy of praise, all in the comfort of your home?

CORTO

The most robust of all, Corto is the strongest coffee in the Barista Creations line. Made with African Arabica and Robusta coffee beans, Corto is smooth, yet possesses an intense lingering aftertaste that is sure to be perfect as a pick-me-up.

Nespresso Corto Coffee

All you have to do is pop the capsule into any of Nespresso’s coffee machine and you can have a cup of high-quality coffee at the touch of a button in a matter of minutes. It’s all too convenient!

DO YOU KNOW YOUR COFFEE?

Curious but confused by the different names of milk coffee you typically see in cafes? While you may know of the several common types milk coffees, such as the latte and cappuccino, do you know some of the uncommon ones? Here are 3 types of uncommon milk coffee you can make with Nespresso’s Barista Creations capsules!

Nespresso Capsules

What is Piccolo Latte?

Traditionally, a Piccolo Latte is a ristretto (very strong, concentrated espresso coffee) shot finished with steamed milk served in a mini latte glass. Thanks to the steamed milk and micro foam (we attempted making 1 with this variation below), Piccolo Latte enables us to relish the elevated flavours of ristretto and milk without us feeling bloated thereafter. Perfect for after-meal or when ending the day with a heavy-milky drink is too much!

What is Cappuccino?

Originally named after garment colour of Capuchin friars, it contains double espresso and steamed milk only. After much modifications over the decades, some say that it is recognised by its froth. Its general recipe is ⅓ espresso, ⅓ steamed milk and ⅓ milk foam, not limiting to the size of any cup. Almost every country has a different variation to this.

What is Macchiato?

In Italian, “Macchiato” means “marked”, referring to an espresso marked with milk. If you are an intense espresso drinker but appreciates a soft touch of milk, you should go for macchiato. Note that you should never stir your macchiato.

A macchiato typically has a greater portion of espresso to milk, so the flavour of espresso is stronger than a cappuccino. The opposite of cappuccino, macchiato does not deviate much in modifications. Read on to know how to make a flavoured macchiato (caramel)!

USING NESPRESSO MACHINE TO MAKE MILK COFFEE

Nespresso’s Barista Creations is meant to be savoured with milk, so let’s dive right into making milk coffee, shall we? Of course, we will be using Nespresso’s coffee-making machine and the 3 new coffee capsules from Barista Creations! Let us teach you how to make good milk coffee from scratch. Don’t worry, we are beginners too!

PICCOLO LATTE

After doing our homework, we realised that we can make a robust cup of Piccolo Latte with the Corto capsule! Piccolo Latte is a smaller-sized version of the latte, albeit much stronger in aroma and flavour. Perfect for heavy coffee drinkers!

How to use a Nespresso to make Piccolo Latte 1
How to use a Nespresso machine 2
Cup of Coffee Made Using Nespresso

Lightly knock the milk frother at least twice on the table to separate the milk from the milk foam. Proceed to pour the frothed milk into the coffee cup. Complete by spooning milk foam to the brim.

The end result is a cup of intense coffee with creamy milk foam on top!

CAPPUCCINO

With the Scuro coffee capsule, you can make a cup of smooth & well-balanced cappuccino. This is really perfect for the everyday coffee drinker!

Collage3
Collage4
DSCF1663-31

With ⅓ of the brewed Scuro coffee in the coffee cup, pour another ⅓ of frothed milk in. Fill the remaining ⅓ of the cup to the brim with milk foam.

A simple dusting of cocoa powder on top will glamorise your cup of cappuccino. Voila, you’ve got yourself a smooth cup of fancy cappuccino!

CARAMEL MACCHIATO

The lightest of the Barista Creations line, the Chiaro capsule pairs superbly well with sweet types of milk coffee. We couldn’t resist and decided to make a cup of caramel macchiato!

Collage5
Collage6
DSCF1697-1

First, insert a Chiaro capsule into the coffee-making machine. While the coffee is brewing, layer the base of a glass cup (as seen in the photo below) with caramel syrup and add in the foam.

Then, pour ¼ frothed milk into the glass cup and fill the remaining cup with the brewed Chiaro coffee. Finish by drizzling caramel syrup onto the milk froth at the top and it’s ready to be served!

DSCF1707-39

Just like any beginner learning how to brew a good cup of coffee from scratch, practice makes perfect! Of course, we did a little research and went through several bouts of trial and error before getting the hang of it. If we can brew a good cup of barista-style coffee with Nespresso’s Barista Creations (Chiaro, Scuro & Corto) & its extraordinarily user-friendly coffee-making machine, we believe anyone can produce just the perfect cup of milk coffee he or she desires!

Joo Chiat Prawn Mee – The Secret is Out, the Master of Hei Mee is Back!

Not sure if you remember Joo Chiat Prawn Mee which used to sit at the junction of Crane Road & Carpmael Road. It shut its doors sometime ago but has recently re-opened at Ayer Rajar Food Centre!

Owners and Store Front of Joo Chiat Prawn Mee

Mdm Lee Xiu Chun’s father came to Singapore from Xiamen and started to cook prawn noodles to make a living. They are relatives with the owners of Blanco Court, Jalan Sultan and Beach Road Prawn Noodles. Plus, they also taught Ruifang’s late grandfather who started 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles how to cook hei mee too! Mdm Lee closed her shop previously to take care of her husband. Now, she has re-opened Joo Chiat Prawn Mee with her son-in-law.

I had the bee hoon mee dry($5) with chilli. It came with three prawns, some pork ribs and fresh kangkong. The chilli was strong and shiok enough, and makes you want to finish your noodles in no time.

The prawns were partially de-shelled in the middle. Unfortunately, they were slightly overcooked on our day of visit. The pork ribs were tender and the meat came off the bone easily. You can also add pig’s tail to your noodles.

Prawn Soup by Joo Chiat Prawn Mee

I usually prefer the dry version when it comes to prawn noodles, but I love the soup prawn noodles here more. Joo Chiat Prawn Noodles’ murky soup was hearty and comforting. It boasted a good balance of savoury flavours and sweetness from the prawns and pork bones. Chilli powder is provided, but we think the broth is flavourful enough on its own.

Geylang Claypot Rice – Popular Claypot Rice in Geylang has Moved to Beach Road

The famous Geylang Claypot Rice has moved to Beach Road! While the restaurant’s interior has been modernized, the restaurant continues to serve traditional claypot rice, as well as some zichar dishes.

Three claypots cooking on a stove

At Geylang Claypot Rice, it is all about rice that’s cooked over a charcoal fire. Your claypot rice will take at least 25 minutes to arrive, but when it arrives at your table, you’ll instantly know that the wait was worthwhile.

Claypot rice from Geylang Claypot Rice
Tossing a portion of claypot rice

Served with ingredients such as succulent chicken chunks, sausages, and fragrant salted fish, the claypot rice ($36 for large) from Geylang Claypot Rice was smoky, toothsome and tasty. While I had better marinated chicken elsewhere, I find the dark sauce here particularly good. Geylang Claypot Rice was generous with the sauce and had drizzled lots of it over the rice, making sure that each rice grain was lovingly coated with the sauce. Heavenly. P/S We also added more lard oil (you can forget about your diet).

When you reach the bottom of the pot, you’ll discover a layer of crispy rice bits stuck to the pot. That is the best part. It is not burnt, but it is roasted and it tastes especially good when you pair it with their sambal chilli sauce.

Beancurd Skin Roll
Tofu with Prawns
Sambal Kang Kong

Because we have a table full of hungry people, we decided to order a few stir-fry dishes to go along with our claypot rice. We had the Tofu with Prawns ($12), Sambal Kang Kong ($10), Beancurd Skin Roll ($10) and Stir-fried French Beans with Shrimps ($10). The beancurd was silky smooth, and the prawns were large and juicy. Some loved the gravy with their claypot rice. For me, the speciality dark sauce and lard oil with the rice wins hands down — there’s no better combination.

Interior of Geylang Claypot Rice

I think I have eaten enough claypot rice to come up with a listing soon. Geylang Claypot Rice is definitely one of my favourites! Call in advance to reserve a table, and to ensure that your rice will be ready when you arrive.

Dutch Colony Coffee Co. (#01-21)

Good breakfast and great coffee? It’s no wonder Dutch Colony is one of the most successful café chains in Singapore. Besides serving specialty coffee, Dutch Colony also conducts public cupping sessions to help public pick up on the flavour profile of different types of coffee.

We’ve all been there before. Your friend takes a slow sip of the coffee and says, “Hazelnut, with hints of red grape and cherry, I’d say. What do you think?”

I break into cold sweat when I am asked such questions because it seems impossible to distinguish between flavour profiles. But after an exciting coffee cupping session at Dutch Colony, my palate is better trained and more attuned to the different notes present in the coffee.

Dutch Colony conducts regular coffee cupping events to educate the public about specialty coffee and what it is all about. We tasted the coffee brewed from beans from Brazil Fazenda Rio Claro and Ethiopia Haile Masha Estate. Both coffees have interesting fruity notes. Of course, I didn’t become an expert immediately. But I believe that practice makes perfect. The more we expose ourselves to the different flavours and attributes of coffee, the better we become at identifying them.

Moc Quan (#01-23)

Pho, or beef noodle soup, is probably the most common Vietnamese dish but there’s another that deserves just as much attention and love – the humble banh mi. Moc Quan takes its Banh Mis seriously. Very seriously.

Using a special oven that they imported from Vietnam, the chefs bake their own Vietnamese baguette fresh daily. The baguette is lighter and airier, and the crust is thin and crisp. The owner flies to Vietnam every fortnight or so to hand-carry an astounding 100 kg’s worth of fresh ingredients back to Singapore.

Banh Mi Tit Nuong is one of their bestsellers. And it’s easy to see why it’s so popular. Crispy baguette aside, we were bowled over by the generous portions of barbecued pork, as well as the amazingly harmonious flavours. The tart and acidic notes of the pickled vegetables, the smoky sweetness of the pork, and the savoury fish sauce just worked so well together.

The fragrant Mixed Pho Bo and fried spring roll share the limelight with the awesome Banh Mi. Fresh Vietnamese rice noodles and aromatic beef broth, what’s not to love?

Shu Yan Sichuan Cuisine @ Mohamed Sultan (#01-51/54)

Do you like spicy food? If the answer lies anywhere along the range of hot to numbing, then Sichuan cuisine is for you.

Located along the stretch of Mohammed Sultan Road, Shu Yan will satisfy all your “hot” cravings. Marrying Sichuan’s signature flavours with the intricacies of Cantonese cuisine, Shu Yan sends out a mouth-numbing Mapo Tofu. Each bite left a mild burning and numbing sensation on my tongue, and the dish is perfect with a bowl of rice.

Looking for an almost non-spicy option? Kung Pao Chicken is always a good idea. The dish is similar to sweet and sour pork, and has a nutty crunch and succulent chicken pieces..

There’s no better way to round off a hot and spicy meal with a bowl of Sichuan Ice Jelly. This barely sweet jelly is topped with brown sugar syrup. Don’t forget to get a few bottles of Snow Beer because they are currently having a “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” promotion. While stocks last, the promotion ends on 31 July 2019.

Chikuyotei (#01-61)

Chikuyotei UE Square is the second branch of this fine-dining Japanese restaurant. In addition to the usual menu, more higher-end offerings such as Kagoshima A5 wagyu beef, boiled fish sperm and Hokkaido snow crab claypot rice are available.

One dish that they kept from their original outlet is the intriguing Unagi Don. Imported from Nishiki Mikawa in Aichi Prefecture, the live eels are perfectly broiled with Chikuyotei’s secret tare sauce. These eels have a softer texture and are way better tasting. End your meal on a sweet note with the Mineoka Tofu (homemade sesame and milk tofu).

From now till 30 June 2019, Chikuyotei UE Square is having a special lunch promotion. Their Unagi Don & Sashimi Set starts from $68~ only. If you are bringing your loved one for dinner, you can try omakase sets where you will be served Japanese hamaguri clams or Kuruma prawns from Okinawa.

Fook Seng Goldenhill Chicken Rice – Hole-in-the-Wall Eatery that Serves Tender Chicken Rice

We love chicken rice. When I need a quick lunch at a hawker centre, I will have a plate of chicken rice.

IMG_2054-10

I have read a lot about Fook Seng GoldenHill Chicken Rice (负成金山鸡饭) online and I finally made it there. Located in the quiet Jalan Rumah Tinggi, Fook Seng is a standalone eatery in the residential estate (there is even an abolished bus terminal there).

DSCF2067-4
DSCF2057-1

The menu here is very simple. A plate of chicken rice starts from $2, but you can order the superior and premium version at $3 and $5 respectively.

The chicken here is kinda prepared medium well. The firm chicken is juicy, very tender and smooth. The chicken is topped with a slight drizzle of sesame oil and soy sauce. I don’t quite like having sesame oil in my chicken because it will mask the natural sweetness of the meat so I asked the aunty not to be too generous with the oil.

The husband loves the rice but I thought it didn’t have enough flavour. It wasn’t too oily, so that’s good. Each plate of chicken rice comes with a small bowl of chicken soup with sliced cabbage.

iPiccy-collage1
DSCF2072-6

The chilli, which is made fresh with a combination of red chillies and small chillies, packed a spicy kick. I like it because it has the right amount of tang. Sadly, I find their ginger sauce too watery.

I also ordered a portion of baby bak choy which left me a very happy girl. They used to be popular for their raw fish, which unfortunately is no longer available.

It was an enjoyable lunch, I must say. I’ll come back if I am in the area, and craving for chicken rice.

It’s claws-galore at the live station as the chefs work doubly hard to whip up unlimited servings of Mala Lobsters, Lobster with Golden Egg Yolk Butter Cream, Lobster with Singapore Chilli Crab Sauce, Lobster with 5 Peppers Sauce and Baby Lobster Laksa.

Fans of spicy, tongue-numbing Sichuan cuisine can now enjoy it with lobsters! Do not worry about the lobsters swimming in a fiery pit of chilli oil. Instead, the meat is stir-fried with dried chillies and Sichuan peppercorns, giving it a combination of spicy, numbing and fragrant flavours. The chefs from Lime have also come up with a unique Lobster dish made with 5 Peppers Sauce which is seriously addictive. With a drier and more aromatic gravy, the Lobster with 5 Peppers Sauce hits all the right spots and is supremely satisfying.

A family favourite, the Golden Egg Yolk Butter Cream lobster is primed to be one of the most popular dishes. if you’re craving for fresh lobsters in a creamy, spicy sauce, this is made for you! We love that they are quite generous with the bright yellow, gooey salted egg sauce. The team has also peppered the lobsters with curry leaves for that extra burst of flavour. If you prefer something classic, the Chili Lobsters here are not to be missed.

The Baby Lobster Laksa Noodles is one of the highly-rated dishes which has made a return due to popular demand. The dish is bound to make you come back for seconds. Cafe De Nicole’s Flower – This New Cafe in Siglap is Covered with Flowers

Spring is here at Cafe De Nicole’s Flower. Flowers are blooming at this new garden cafe in Siglap!

Cafe De Nicole’s Flower dining space is elegantly furnished with natural wood fittings, which complements the relaxed setting. A flower workshop stands beside the kitchen counter, where coffee is poured and cakes are served.

We paid Rose Garden a visit on Saturday morning and had a quiet breakfast. Nicole’s Favours ($21.90), which comes with either smoked salmon or chicken, is the safest bet. There’s nothing much to complain about, it’s just a plate of big breakfast that combines different ingredients onto a plate.

The Cheese Filling Ravioli ($13.90) is a hearty dish which comes with truffle cream or tomato sauce. Each pocket is filled with mozzarella and it is very filling.

I am a big waffle eater, so we shared a Plain Waffle with Ice Cream ($13.90) at the end. The waffles are definitely fluffy but a little too soft for my liking. Other sweet bites such as swiss toll, muffins and macarons are available as well. If you love lounging in a greenhouse and catching up with you best pals over pretty cakes, Cafe De Nicole’s Flower is the place for you.

Cafe De Nicole’s Flower’s most exceptional trait is not the menu but the charming venue. It’s bound to become a favourite spot for those who have a penchant for all things pretty.

TungLok Teahouse – 11 New & Delicious Dishes that You Must Try!

Weekend brunching is a big deal in this city of workaholics, as it’s one of the few times you actually can get a group together for a meal. If you are craving for authentic handmade dim sum, TungLok Teahouse is the place to go.

DSCF2127-4

DSCF2358-39

Basically, you browse the menu on the iPad, tap on the item you wish to have and confirm your order. The food will arrive via the ‘train’. Pick it up and press the button to send the empty train back to the kitchen.

TungLok Teahouse is the first Chinese Restaurant in Singapore to launch the automated tray delivery system. This is truly a dim sum place for fashionistas. Oh wait, they don’t only serve dim sum, they also offer a great selection of dishes that’s curated by a team of superb chefs. Let’s take a look at some of the dishes we highly recommend. Read on because the range is thrilling.

1. Soya Sauce Chicken

DSCF2265-26

The Soya Sauce Chicken ($16++ for half chicken) was the star of our meal. The chicken with a smooth brown skin, was incredibly tender. Drizzled with their house-made soy sauce, the chicken looked deceptively simple, but was a smashing hit with everyone. You just need a bowl of rice, and you’re set.

2. Garlic Pork Spare Ribs

DSCF2195-12

The Garlic Pork Spare Ribs ($18++) made a grand entrance as they “zoomed” to our dining table. Blitzed with fried garlic, I picked up the ribs immediately with my fingers and started gnawing at the tasty meat which came off the bone easily. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.

3. Crisp-fried Prawn with ‘Chilli-Crab’ Sauce served with Rice Cracker

DSCF2217-15

DSCF2349-37

Just as stunning were the Crisp-fried Prawns ($19.80++). Here, the prawns are served in a huge puddle of ‘chilli-crab’ sauce that’s sweet, spicy, tangy, and thickened with egg. I am glad that they’ve included rice cracker for me to wipe the sauce clean. It’s so addictive!

4. Sautéed Fresh Fish Maw with Black Pepper

DSCF2174-8

DSCF2267-27

The Sautéed Fresh Fish Maw with Black Pepper ($38++) is quite a wonderful change from the usual fish maw soup. It is delicious, nourishing and hearty.

5. Braised Marble Goby With Bamboo Shoot, Mushroom and Garlic

DSCF2250-23

The Braised Marble Goby With Bamboo Shoot, Mushroom and Garlic ($26++) is a treat for the olfactory senses. Expect aromas of Chinese wine, ginger and oyster sauce. You’ll love the light and crispy skin of the fish, which will melt in your mouth.

6. Rice with Beef and Egg Yolk served in Stone Pot

DSCF2156-6

DSCF2256-24

For something more substantial, go for the Rice with Beef and Egg Yolk served in Stone Pot ($20++) which brims with brilliant flavours. The thin beef slices are drenched in a brown sauce and has a lovely barbecue flavour.

7. Teochew Sliced Pomfret Porridge

DSCF2277-29

I really love the Teochew Sliced Pomfret Porridge ($9.80++) for its clean flavours. The porridge was very light on the palate, and the fresh and sweet pomfret was delicate, yet firm at the same time.

8. Teahouse Signature Rice Roll ‘Cheong Fun’

DSCF2103-2

DSCF2345-36

Moving on to dim sum, I got a chance to visit the kitchen and saw that their dim sum is made on the spot and steamed upon order. The Teahouse Signature Rice Roll ‘Cheong Fun’ ($8.50++) is the pride of TungLok Teahouse. The chef pours the batter into a tray with wet cotton steaming cloth, and is very careful about the timing to make sure that the cheong fun is not overcooked. The translucent rice roll is rolled around crispy dough fritters that encase prawns and scallions. Delish!

9. Baked BBQ Pork Bun

DSCF2212-14

The rich and buttery Baked BBQ Pork Bun ($6.30++) is baked with a layer of puff pastry on top and stuffed with barbecue pork. The skin is crisp, and breaks easily with just a gentle bite. The fragrant bun goes hand in hand with the smokiness of the pork, and every bite is just so gratifying.

10. Steamed Shrimp and Lily Bulb Dumpling

DSCF2243-21

The Steamed Shrimp and Lily Bulb Dumpling ($5.80++) is another signature dish at TungLok Teahouse. Sure, the har gow consists of shrimps, like all other har gows, but TungLok uses fresh shrimps! Steamed to perfection, the shrimp dumpling had a very springy skin which I really enjoyed.

11. Mini Piglet BBQ Buns

DSCF2233-19

Everyone wants the little piggies that are actually plump white buns with black sesame-seed eyes, pink snouts, and adorable ears. TungLok Teahouse sends you three cute piggies in a steamer, and each piggy holds moist and tender char siew.

DSCF2314-33

Don’t you agree that TungLok Teahouse makes a fantastic brunch spot? Everyone had their favourites. I am definitely coming back for the soya sauce chicken and cheong fun!

Maria’s Corner – Good Ol’ Home-Style Nasi Lemak in Tanglin Halt

$

I used to be an early bird but because I have been working late almost everyday,  so breakfast isn’t really my thing anymore. But if I do wake up early enough, I make sure I have a good breakfast.

It’s a shame that I didn’t have the time to explore Queenstown more. Most of the flats are already half a century old, and the atmosphere can only be best described as being filled with the original kampong spirit. Following the recommendation of Chef Shen Tan, I popped by Maria’s Corner Nasi Lemak, and the stall is now my go-to breakfast spot if I am around Tanglin Halt.

Located in a quiet and retro coffeeshop, Maria’s Corner is a quaint little stall run by a cute Makcik. So, expect rustic, good, home-style cooking. You can order a mountain of fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk, and pile it with toppings such as beef rendang, seronding, sambal goreng, beef lungs, fried tempeh, fried fish, egg and more. The rice is not too heavily scented so it doesn’t overpower the delicious dishes.

The sambal goreng didn’t leave an impression, but the flavours were robust and intense. The chicken wings are fried in small batches so to ensure that that they remain crisp. Don’t forget to add a spoonful of serunding to your rice.

The other crucial component of nasi lemak is the sambal. Maria’s version is especially memorable, as it was sufficiently spicy with the right balance of sweet and tangy notes. If you want to eat the Nasi Lemak here, you should come before 10am so that there is still a wide range of choices. They also serve longtong, mee siam and mee rebus for breakfast.

Makko Teck Neo – Hidden Peranakan Restaurant in the Heartlands

Makko Teck Neo’s location is interesting — it is tucked in a void deck in a quiet neighbourhood. Makko means ‘aunt’ in Peranakan culture while Teck Neo is the name of the lady boss. Makko Teck Neo sells their signature pineapple tarts every Chinese New Year. Following the success of the tarts, the team decided to open a restaurant serving Peranakan food in Telok Blangah Rise. They have also opened a take-away kiosk in Tang Plaza last year.

These bite-sized Ngoh Hiang ($11.90) were so addictive. They are filled with minced pork, prawns, chestnut and chives, and deep-fried till lightly crunchy. The chestnut gives it a nice crunch and the chilli sauce balances out the saltiness of the ngoh hiang. Nyonya Kueh Pie Tee ($9.90) is a classic dish where a thin slice of prawn is topped with soft turnip stew. Add some chilli sauce and you have yourself a nice little treat.

iPiccy-collage2

DSCF3669-9

DSCF3663-6

Dry Mee Siam ($5.80) is Makko Teck Neo’s signature. This dish is full of flavour – you can taste lemongrass, sambal, Kaffir lime and many other spices in each mouthful. With a squeeze of fresh lime, the dish is even tastier. Even though it was dry mee siam, the vermicelli remained moist and the tau pok still had some gravy when I bit into it. This is the house special and it’s usually sold out early.

Best paired with the mee siam, the Chap Chye ($14.90) was sweet and soft. Makko Teck Neo’s Tauhu Goreng ($6.80) sees deep-fried tofu piled with shredded cucumber, bean sprouts and a mountainous helping of nutty peanut sauce. We didn’t go for the Ayam Buah Keluak ($16.90). Instead, we ordered the Rempah Ayam Goreng ($11.90). The fried chicken is marinated with tamarind and served with their special sambal sauce.

DSCF3698-18

DSCF3665-7

They have different daily specials too. On the Sunday that we were there, the specials were Beef Rendang ($14.90) and Pork Rib Pongteh ($12.90). The most memorable dish on that day was beef rendang. It was on the spicy side and definitely packed a punch. The sauce was so fragrant and rich, and went very well with the plain basmati rice. Stewed in fermented soy bean, the pork rib pongteh was not too bad too as the meat was wonderfully tender.

DSCF3683-15

IMG_3181-20

Makko Teck Neo’s Peranakan food is not bad. We all know that Peranakan food requires tedious cooking processes and prices tend to be steeper. However, the food here is really value for money. The little eatery is located in Telok Blangah Rise, and public parking is relatively easy to find. They also sell different types of nyonya kueh such as kueh dadar, ondeh ondeh, kueh salat, kueh talam, kueh lapis and blue pea dumplings!

San Lou Cafe – Hidden Gem in JB Serving Cheap & Delicious Zi Char

My husband is becoming a food expert in Johor Bahru because he goes across the causeway at least once a month to eat with his friends. When we finally arranged for a food trip last month, he excitedly brought us to this hidden gem in Stulang Darat. “I want to bring you to check out this cafe,” he said. Of course, I look at him in disbelief, because he is not a cafe person to begin with!

DSCF3766-18

DSCF3721-3

True enough, we ended up at a carpark situated in the midst of 3-storey flats. I thought we had lost our way. I saw an old school playground and a temple in the neighbourhood. But as we walked towards the end of Block B, I saw San Lou Cafe (三楼咖啡屋). Not the kind of cafe I had imagined, but a rather laid back eatery that serves really delicious zi-char dishes that are very affordable.

DSCF3755-14

iPiccy-collage1

It’s a family-style restaurant and everyone here is very friendly. Before finding a table, we went into the kitchen to pick a fresh fish and decide on the cooking style.

DSCF3730-6

DSCF3727-5

DSCF3745-10

I may not be accurate with the names of the fish, but the cook recommended threadfin and croaker, cooked in two different ways — steamed with preserved radish, and with assam. The steamed fish was covered with spring onions and preserved radish, which elevated the umami of the whole dish. You can taste the delicate sweetness of the fresh fish. The steaming Asam fish curry was my favourite. The whole table was slurping up the sweet, sour and spicy gravy.

DSCF3753-13

DSCF3732-7

DSCF3747-11

The stir-fried clams here were probably the best I have tasted. They were slightly briny but very juicy and fresh. After eating the clams here, I don’t think I would order it anywhere else. We also had omelette with fresh krill (small shrimps) and Sayur Manis. It’s my first time eating mani cai with eggs; I usually have them in my bowl of mee hoon kueh.

This is an excellent eatery where you can truly experience JB food. Our meal only cost RM 98! What a steal!

Ga Hock Seafood – Old School Zi Char Along Upper Bukit Timah Road

I remember it was a very busy day for us. We spent a full day at Jewel Changi Airport, and rushed all the way to the west for dinner with our friends at Ga Hock Seafood. I was very tempted to “fly aeroplane” but our friends have been talking about the food and atmosphere for weeks, so I knew I just had to be there.

The long day of photoshoot made me really tired. But as we drove into the carpark beside Ga Hock Seafood, I started getting excited. We got a table in the open space at the back of the old school coffeeshop.

_Z3A2740-4

Fish Head Curry is one of the signature dishes here. It’s similar to assam curry fish head — the flavours were well balanced, and it had a slight sourness and a hint of fruitiness. The sauce had a nice thickness and it definitely paired well with my plate of white rice.

_Z3A2748-8
_Z3A2751-9
_Z3A2742-5

The Nan Ru Pork Belly may not be labeled as a must-try, but it was still pretty good. The aroma of garlic was distinct, and the thick slices of golden brown pork belly may have you and your pals fighting over the final piece. This plate of goodness is infused with flavors of fermented beancurd. I thought I was already full but I felt otherwise after this arrived. We also had the Shark Head in Black Bean Sauce and Qing Long Vegetables.

The salt baked crabs is another signature. I have heard so much about it even before our dinner, so my expectations were high. It was the last dish to arrive and we were all waiting in anticipation. Huge chunky crabs were crusted in salt and baked in the oven. With such a simple dish, the quality of crabs plays an even more important role, as it is even more prominent. Just like when we eat Teochew steamed fish, the freshness of the fish is very important. Unfortunately, the crabs fell short of expectations that night.

Opening up a crab claw to find it empty is indescribably disappointing. Not to mention, it’s a waste of a good crab. Our friend, Benny, who used to sell crabs, explained that crabs that are low on meat may have recently moulted their shell and have not had a chance to fill their body with flesh. And on our day of visit, the crab didn’t have much flavour. It was a pity considering that we paid close to $200 for the crabs.

IMG_0050-1

I love the environment here because it feels like I am somewhere in Malaysia. I will probably come back again for other dishes. Not too sure if I will order the crabs again though. Not in my photos was a plate of satay which was very tasty. With a good proportion of fats to meat ratio, the satay was so juicy and each stick had a slight charred aroma.

Savour at Wisma Atria – Feast on Local and International Cuisine at Food Republic and Picnic

We are never too far away from an easy, delicious meal. At Wisma Atria, it’s all about food and fun. Just a few weeks ago, I hosted the #SavourAtWisma event where the first 100 shoppers with the Qualifying Pass were treated to a yummy lunch feast at Food Republic Singapore and Picnic SG respectively.

Besides sharing about food photography tips during the event, some shoppers went home with not just a full tummy, but also shopping vouchers, concert tickets and Singapore Badminton Open passes! Here are some highlights of #SavourAtWisma events.

PICNIC
#03-15 to 23 & #03-41 to 49

Sometimes, I would spend my weekend afternoon in Picnic because there are different lunch options there and we get to enjoy our food in such an Instagram-worthy space. This communal dining eatery serves comfort food dishes such as Japanese Butadon, Taiwanese beef noodles, Korean-Mexican tacos, and American-style smash burgers by Omakase Burger – all within a garden-themed food court.

The camera always eats first!

Shoppers from Wisma Atria received $20 dining credits each. They can queue for their favourite food and share it with their friends. The highlight is definitely the Omakase X Impossible Burger, which includes a customised patty that comprises a blend of the original Impossible patty with a selection of handpicked plant-based ingredients. The meatless patty is pressed against a grill to produce a flatter, caramelised crust on the exterior. It has everything a meat lover looks for in a burger: a slightly pink middle with a smoky flavour. Except that this is also suitable for vegetarians.

I always come here for the Hokkaido-style Butadon where strips of pork belly, collar, and loin are triple-marinated before being grilled and served atop a bowl of rice. If you come in a big group, the Picnic’s Celebration Feast is perfect. Suitable for 8 pax or more, the Celebration Feast is a smorgasbord of 10 different signature dishes such as the signature butadon, pastas and pizzas, and a choice of roast beef or basked barramundi, and served on a long platter. It certainly is a one-of-a-kind showpiece that makes for a memorable celebration.

Besides enjoying the scrumptious meal, the shoppers also picked up food photography tips and two winners walked away with a pair of season passes to Singapore Badminton Open (worth $500) each. How lucky!

FOOD REPUBLIC
Level 4

Do you know, Food Republic’s very first outlet is in Wisma Atria? The food court gathers iconic and popular brands under one roof. Whether you are grabbing breakfast on the run or taking a shopping break over kopi and toast, there is definitely something for everyone. We spent one Saturday afternoon with shoppers from Wisma Atria to try some of the signature dishes at Food Republic Wisma Atria.

P1211747-2

Some of the highlights at Food Republic @ Wisma Atria include KL Ban Mian, Fitra Chicken Rice, Hok Kee and Huat Huat BBQ. Hok Kee hails from Yuen Long, Hong Kong and has more than 60 years of heritage. The wontons here are plump and fresh; it is a surprise find in a food court. For chicken rice lovers, the halal-certified Fitra Chicken Rice will satisfy your cravings. You can choose between tender, juicy chicken roasted or poached, served on a bed of fragrant chicken rice.

If you can take spicy food, the KL Ban Mian is pretty decent. The noodles are QQ and chewier. The dry version is drizzled generously with lard oil, minced pork and a perfect poached egg. Just break the egg and let the yolk coat every strand of the ban mian. While the participants are enjoying their main course, they also ordered a plate of Huat Huat BBQ chicken wings to share.

Jagalchi Market – A Seafood Lovers’ Dream Come True at this Popular Seafood Market in Busan

It was our first time in Busan. To be honest, I don’t really know what to expect. But a visit to Jagalchi Market came highly recommended by many friends.

DSCF7399-1

Jagalchi Fish Market is the largest seafood market in South Korea, and it sells both live and dried seafood.

This is a large building housing the fish and seafood sellers on the first floor, and the restaurants on the second. It is, therefore, very convenient to procure your desired seafood, and have them cooked and served to you all in “one place”.

DSCF7453-12

The wet market on the first floor sells almost everything the ocean has to offer. The types of sea creatures are endless — crabs, octopus, fish, abalone, and lots of shellfish.

You can purchase the live seafood on the ground floor and bring it to one of the many restaurants on 2nd floor for preparation and cooking at an additional charge. It was difficult to pick a stall to get our seafood from, but I guess a good tip will be to check the prices at each stall before you make your purchase. A little bargain is allowed.

We selected a live octopus, fish and some scallops for our meal. It cost us about 23,000 won. Once you have made payment, the fishmongers will prepare the seafood. Then, they will call a waitress from their “buddy” restaurant and someone will bring you upstairs to your table.

Sannakji, sliced raw octopus, is definitely a dish you must order especially if you haven’t try them before. Looking at a plate of wriggling tentacles, I squealed. I am probably not the most adventurous traveler but I was very determined to try it.

The octopus came to us cut up but still moving. The restaurant has tossed the octopus in sesame oil before serving. I took a deep breath before putting one small piece in my mouth. The octopus carried a mild taste of the ocean and it was chewy, slightly slimy, and crunchy. Make sure to chew thoroughly before swallowing. Eating this dish was definitely a very memorable moment for me!

DSCF7506-20
DSCF7428-7

Half of our fish was prepared as sashimi, which was wonderful, and the other half was grilled. The grilled fish was the real highlight — the fish was so soft and oily. You don’t need any sauce to go along with it!

DSCF7516-21
DSCF7522-22
DSCF7533-23

They used the fish head to make a fish hotpot, which was similar to Doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew). It’s mildly spicy, tasty, hearty and comforting. Our cooked food added up to about 20,000 won.

If you are too lazy to select the seafood on the ground floor, just turn up at any restaurant and pick the dishes you prefer. If you are a huge seafood fan, go to the seafood buffet restaurant on level 5. You can try huge varieties of seafood dishes.

DSCF7441-10

There is also an outdoor market where you can get dried fish and some seafood in the morning. Walk to the back of the market and you will be able to enjoy a beautiful sea view, and outdoor street performances.

This is probably the most memorable experience we had in Busan. It’s a seafood lover’s dream come true here. I will be posting more Busan articles, so if you are heading there soon, keep a lookout!

A Sneak Peak into LG Smart Home in Korea – Where Life Runs More Efficiently

When we purchased a three-bedroom two years ago, my husband decided to make it a smart one — where he could control the lights, refrigerator, televisions, security cameras and everything in between — with the sound of his voice or a click on his smartphone.

Some friends and family members were skeptical. But he went ahead and purchased a whole package of smart appliances and other gadgets which can be connected to the internet or be remotely controlled with a mobile device or smart speaker. He uses a voice assistant to play music, uses the smartphone to control the temperature of the refrigerator and even see who’s ringing our doorbell.

IMG_3536

Smart home appliances are tuned to simplify our lives at home. It’s no surprise that big brands like LG are creating a buzz in the world of smart appliances.

Just last month, we visited the newly opened LG Research Lab, LG Science Park and LG Inspiration Gallery in Korea to understand the food science and technology used to enhance the various kitchen appliances that the brand manufactures. Let us walk you through a day in LG Smart Home.

6:00 AM

DSCF6763-1

Waking up early for work? Let LG CLOi Home wake you up! It looks like a child’s toy as it has a super adorable face, but don’t be deceived by this little bot. It acts as a hub to connect to other LG ThinQ appliances in the home and uses voice recognition technology to complete household tasks such as turning on/off the air conditioner, playing music, creating reminders and even giving you traffic updates.

7:00 AM

DSCF6958-22

Time for breakfast? Let LG Signature’s refrigerator help you! LG’s InstaView™ Door-in-Door refrigerators allows you to see inside the easy-access door without letting the cold air out. Simply knock twice on the glass to illuminate the contents within. The smart fridge also sends alerts about expiring food and offers recipes for meals that include those expiring items.

DSCF6932-17

DSCF6786-7

For example, the ricotta cheese in the fridge expires in a few days’ time, so the fridge recommends a lasagna recipe. Once you’re ready to start cooking, the fridge will tell the oven to go ahead and start preheating to the proper temperature. Then it will walk you through each step on the refrigerator’s touchscreen.

FUN FACT: Do you know LG has a specialised kimchi refrigerator? At LG Electronics’ Food Science Research Institute in Changwon, the researchers conduct studies on how to keep food fresh, ferment kimchi, and various cooking methods using its kitchen appliances. Kimchi is a staple for Koreans and the existence of this fridge isn’t that surprising. When stored in a regular fridge, Kimchi can become sour after about a week and we are always complaining about the overpowering smell. The LG Kimchi refrigerators provide a perfect environment for fermentation. They have a more consistent and colder temperature with less moving air and more humidity. This was just so damn cool.

8:00 AM

DSCF6930-2

Once you are done with breakfast, you can wash your dishes with LG Quadwash Steam Dishwasher. With TrueSteam and QuadWash technology, the dishwasher can help to loosen tough caked-on food before the main washing cycle begins. The EasyRack system allows you to adjust to any type of kitchenware, even long-stem wine glass. It makes kitchen clean up a breeze.

9:00 AM

DSCF6951-5

It’s bright and sunny! Time to do some washing. LG’s New Big-Capacity Twinwasher and Dryer allow you to run two loads at once while gently drying a third at lower temperature. Thankfully, it is able to deliver cleaner laundry in less time, so I can rush for my meeting thereafter. Oh wait, in fact the washer and dryer are compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which allows you to turn your machine on or off and monitor the cycle anywhere.

11:00 AM

While I’m out, LG R9 robotic vacuum comes out to play! It uses onboard cameras to analyse your home, map their path and efficiently clean your space.

7:00 PM

DSCF6988-29

It’s a long day of meetings and finally, home sweet home! I put my jacket into LG Styler which helps to sanitize and remove sweat. The deep-penetrating steam and gently moving hangers reduce wrinkles in the clothes, making it look fresh.

7:30 PM

DSCF6990-1

I just want to prepare a quick and easy dinner after a tiring day. Some fried chicken wings and beer sound good. Equipped with LG’s unique Smart Inverter, the NeoChef can handle practically any cooking job. It comes with specialized settings for preparing a variety of ingredients, offering the delicate control required for tasks such as melting chocolate or cheese. You can even enjoy your favorite fried treats, without the guilt, as it contains less oil and 72% less fats.

8:30 PM

DSCF6758-1

RELAX TIME! LG’s new OLED TV was dubbed “wallpaper” because it’s so insanely thin and light. Approximately 4mm thin, it attaches directly to the wall with special magnets that pull the screen flush – leaving no gap – just like wallpaper. Turn it on, and the end-effect is, at first, hard-to-believe… like the TV is actually part of the wall, or was drawn on the wall.

11:30 PM

DSCF6778-5

When it’s time for bed, you can now ask your LG Air Conditioner to cool your room. You will be able to use simple voice commands to adjust thermostat settings on your LG air conditioner. Lights off, goodnight!

DSCF6791-10

DSCF6789-9

IMG_1932

Now you have a sense of how your day could go, make sure you have a smartphone and you can install a totally integrated smart-home system.

LG’s ThinQ technology has become the centerpiece of the AI world; and every day it’s learning more about how AI can assist people in their homes and beyond to make life better.

From checking the temperature of your wine and telling you when to buy milk, to helping you with laundry and watching high-quality movies in your house, LG’s appliances have you covered. That’s the beauty of the smart home — when these products start working together to create meaningful solutions. ThinQ really is the home of the future.

This is a sponsored trip to Korea by LG, but all opinions are my own.
